One Social Media Minute

  • One Social Media Minute

What can happen in a minute will leave the best of us astounded. These are the stats of what one-minute looks line in social media time:

41.6 million messages sent over Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp

    347,222 people are scrolling Instagram

    87,500 people posting to Twitter

4.5 million videos on YouTube being watched

This is not a days’ worth of stats. For every 5-minute snooze cycle before you actually wake up, there are over 430 Thousand tweets that go out in the world to chirp. Breaking down social media makes one’s head spin and unlike your alarm that works once a day, this is a 24/7 action. No wonder the world is moving information and misinformation faster than ever before.  Today the gap between the arena and tv room is shrinked to the point that you can ‘watch’ the game with the best of the best via live tweets and posts. This is what is happening in those 87,500 tweets per minute. People are being together, virtually.

This social media presence is not limited to the Gen x or Y or z or the millennial or the baby boomers! Oh no way can you label the social media population and put them in a neat box. They go beyond age and location. Social Networking has morphed into social multi-networking. It is everyone, everywhere, at all time. The crowd making up for twitter is not exclusively on twitter and same goes for every other platform. If the consumers are everywhere, they sellers must be everywhere and vice versa.  It’s a brave new world.
